In the mountains the weather changes quickly, and a rainy day is part of the trip. In Bormio it is the perfect opportunity for what has made the village famous for centuries: thermal water. Here is how to spend the day in the warm, between spas, a museum and the churches of the centre.
Leonardo da Vinci already mentioned Bormio in the Codex Atlanticus: «A Bormi sono i bagni» (In Bormio there are the baths).
Opening times, admission, minimum age and any bookings change with the season: check them on the official websites before you go. To reach the Bagni from the village, see Getting around Bormio.
Bormio’s Museo Civico tells the story of local art, history and traditions in a historic building, Palazzo De Simoni. Until the end of October 2026 it hosts the exhibition «La mia Wunderkammer», in memory of Roberto Togni. Dates and opening times should be checked on bormio.eu before your visit.
The centre is small: between one church and the next, you can stop at a wine bar or a café.
Amaro Braulio, made with mountain herbs, was born in Bormio. At Casa Braulio you can visit the historic cellars by reservation: a great idea for a rainy afternoon. For Valtellina wines, our guide «Dove andare a Bormio» (Where to go in Bormio) also includes Enoteca Guanella. Opening times and bookings should be checked directly.
