October in Bormio: foliage, the red deer rut and the Wunderkammer at the Museo Civico

October in Alta Valtellina is foliage season, and between September and October is the time of the red deer rut. The Guide Alpine Bormio (mountain guides) organise evening outings by reservation, usually between late September and the first half of October (for example in Val Zebrù and at Cancano): dates and places change every year, so check them on guidebormio.com or in the events calendar on bormio.eu. In the village, until the end of October 2026, the Museo Civico (Palazzo De Simoni) hosts the exhibition «La mia Wunderkammer», in memory of Roberto Togni: check dates and times on bormio.eu before going.

A typical day

Morning: a stroll in the centre (Piazza del Kuerc) or a visit to the Museum.

Afternoon: a foliage hike or the spas (Bormio Terme / QC Terme Bagni Vecchi).

Evening: a rut outing if booked, or a traditional dinner.
