Bormio in the evening: historic centre, pizzoccheri and a safe way back

Via Roma and the historic centre

Via Roma is the street in the centre lined with shops, wine bars and restaurants. The evening stroll leads to Piazza del Kuerc, the medieval heart of the village, with the Kuerc and the Torre delle Ore (clock tower), next to the Collegiata.

For a drink before dinner, our guide recommends Enoteca Guanella, wines and spirits in a 17th-century building, which is also a restaurant. In the centre there is also Casa Braulio, the shop of Bormio’s amaro.

Where to have dinner: our selection

From the Easy Housing guide «Dove andare a Bormio» (Where to go in Bormio, v2, September 2026):

  • Osteria La Bajona: pizzoccheri and sharing boards beneath the Bajona tower; our pick for pizzoccheri;
  • Kuerc: traditional dishes and pizza, overlooking piazza del Kuerc;
  • Al Filò: Valtellina cooking in a 17th-century hayloft, a Buon Ricordo restaurant;
  • Vecchia Combo: a family-run trattoria with sciatt and polenta;
  • La Rasiga: traditional cooking in an old sawmill, with venison and polenta;
  • Umami Pizzeria Bistrot: naturally leavened Neapolitan pizzas, near the centre.

In low season some restaurants may have closing days or reduced opening: days, evening service and bookings should be checked with the restaurants. We do not list opening hours or prices.

Dinners in mountain huts and at altitude

Dinner in a baita (mountain hut) or a rifugio you can reach in the evening is a classic mountain experience. We do not recommend specific places we have not checked: evening opening, access (on foot, by car, by shuttle or by lift) and mandatory booking change from season to season. Ask at the tourist office or through the official channels, and only return using safe transport and routes.

Getting back in the evening

  • On foot: from the historic centre it is the simplest option. Bring a light and suitable shoes: in autumn and winter the streets can be cold or icy.
  • From the outlying hamlets: local buses and shuttles have limited or no evening services depending on the season. Check the last departure beforehand or book a taxi.
  • By car: in winter you need winter tyres or snow chains on board according to the ordinances in force. See Getting around Bormio.
  • Emergencies: 112.
