Bormio with children: easy mountains, in every season

Bormio is a family-friendly mountain village: the historic centre is small, nature is right on the doorstep and every season offers something different. With children the rule is simple: short outings, layered clothing and always an eye on the weather.

The historic centre on foot

Bormio’s centre is easy to explore on foot. In Piazza del Kuerc, the medieval heart of the village, children discover the Kuerc and the Torre delle Ore (clock tower). Next to it is the Collegiata dei Santi Gervasio e Protasio, the main church, completed in 1641.

The Museo Civico in Palazzo De Simoni tells the story of local art, history and traditions; until the end of October 2026 it hosts the exhibition «La mia Wunderkammer», in memory of Roberto Togni, a «cabinet of curiosities» that can intrigue younger visitors too. Dates, opening times and admission should be checked beforehand on bormio.eu.

Short walks and nature

Around Bormio there are walks suitable for children, within the Stelvio National Park. To choose a route suited to your children’s age and the season, ask at the tourist office or check the official channels: we do not recommend specific trails without having checked their condition and difficulty.

  • Autumn: the woods change colour and it is the season of the red deer rut, an experience children remember. See our page Bormio: foliage and the deer rut.
  • Safety: in the mountains the weather changes quickly. Bring water, a warm layer and a waterproof jacket even for short outings.

In winter: the snow

In winter Bormio is a ski resort. For children who are just starting there are ski schools and beginner areas: information, minimum ages and opening periods should be checked on the official channels of the lifts and schools. Remember that in Italy helmets are mandatory for skiers under 18.

Spas and rainy days

The spas are Bormio’s symbol (QC Terme Bagni di Bormio, with the Bagni Vecchi and the Bagni Nuovi, and Bormio Terme). Rules for children’s admission, including any minimum ages and family time slots, vary from one facility to another: check them on the official websites before going.

Practical tips for families

  • Getting there: train to Tirano and then bus, or by car. See Getting around Bormio.
  • By car: a suitable car seat for every child and, for children under 4, a mandatory anti-abandonment device. In winter you need winter tyres or snow chains on board according to the ordinances in force.
  • Mountain roads: passes such as the Stelvio are seasonal and can close in bad weather. Check the official road information.
  • Emergencies: 112. For non-urgent medical care: 116117, free in Lombardy.
