Monza in the evening: historic centre, aperitivo and dinner without a car
A stroll through the historic centre
At sunset, start from the piazza del Duomo, the cathedral founded by Queen Theodelinda, and wander through the pedestrian streets of the centre and along the Lambro river. Distances are short: in a few minutes you go from one square to the next.
The Villa Reale and the Park are the heart of the city by day. In the evening, special openings or events should be checked on the official channels; check the closing times of the Park gates beforehand.
Aperitivo
The centre of Monza has bars and cafés where you can stop for an aperitivo before dinner. We do not recommend specific aperitivo bars that we have not checked ourselves: choose the one that appeals to you along your walk.
Where to have dinner: our selection
From the Easy Housing guide «Dove andare a Monza» (v2, September 2026):
- Hostaria Romana Quinto Quarto: Roman cuisine in a bright dining room, our pick for carbonara;
- La Cantina della Monaca: seasonal Mediterranean dishes in a historic venue;
- I Toscano: Tuscan cured meats, regional dishes and homemade desserts;
- Victory54: Lombard specialities, risottos and pizzas with a twist;
- Silvestro: contemporary Italian cuisine with creative presentation;
- La Bodega Argentina: grilled meats and empanadas.
Opening days, kitchen hours and bookings should be checked directly with the restaurants. We do not list times or prices.
Getting back in the evening
- On foot: if your accommodation is in the centre, this is the simplest option.
- City buses: frequencies and last evening services vary by line and day: check them on the official channels before going out.
- Trains to Milan: if you are staying in Milan or coming from there, check the last useful train on the Trenord app or website. Evening works and changes are possible: see the notices in Getting around Monza.
- Taxi: use the official channels of the city taxi service.
Special evenings
- Events in town: on weekends with major events, such as the Monza Half Marathon, the centre may be livelier and some streets closed.
- An evening in Milan: Milan is just a few minutes away by train. See Milan in the evening, and remember to check the last train back.
