Getting around Monza: from the station to the Villa Reale, stress-free

Monza is just a few kilometres from Milan, but it has a pace all of its own: a compact historic centre, one of the largest parks in Europe and the Autodromo racetrack. You can do most of your stay on foot, with trains and buses for the longer stretches. Below you will find what you need to know to get around, with the official sources to check before you set off.

Arriving in Monza by train

Monza station is on the Milan–Bergamo, Milan–Como/Chiasso and Milan–Lecco railway lines. It is served by the Trenord suburban lines:

  • S7 Lecco – Molteno – Monza – Milano Porta Garibaldi
  • S8 Lecco – Carnate – Monza – Milano Porta Garibaldi
  • S9 Saronno – Seregno – Monza – Milano – Albairate-Vermezzo
  • S11 Como San Giovanni – Milano Porta Garibaldi – (Rho)

There are also several regional trains. For timetables and platforms use the Trenord app or website, or the RFI departure board at the station.

Engineering works notice (autumn 2026): from 7 September to 12 December 2026, services on the Monza–Molteno line are suspended between Villasanta and Triuggio P.A. for the Pedemontana works. According to RFI, this first phase ends on 12 December, but the works continue until 2 September 2027 and the changes will be included in the official timetable. Between Villasanta and Milano Porta Garibaldi the S7 trains run hourly, and there are replacement buses between Triuggio P.A. and Villasanta/Monza. If you are staying in Monza and want to head towards the Lecco side of Brianza, check the timetable for the day.

From Milan without the train: M1 and the z221 bus

If you are coming by metro, get off at the Sesto FS terminus (M1) and take the Autoguidovie z221 bus, on the route Sesto FS/M1 – Monza FS – Macherio – Carate – Mariano. The line stops at Monza station and serves the area of the Villa Reale and the Park. Timetables differ between weekdays, public holidays and August: download the latest PDF from the Autoguidovie Monza e Brianza website.

Tickets and passes are part of the integrated STIBM fare system. Before boarding, check on the Autoguidovie website which ticket you need for your zone and where to buy it.

Villa Reale, Park and Autodromo

  • Villa Reale: the main entrance is at viale Brianza 1. From the station you can take the z221 bus. According to the Reggia di Monza website, the z208 line also reaches the main entrances to the Park and the Villa.
  • Park: there are three main entrances: viale Brianza (Monza), via Enzo Ferrari (Vedano al Lambro) and via Farina (Villasanta). The park is huge: if you are short on time, choose the entrance closest to the area you want to see.
  • Shuttle from the centre: the Reggia website mentions a weekday shuttle from the centre to the Porta Monza entrance. Check times and service days on the official website before relying on it.
  • Autodromo: the z221 stops in Biassono, near Gate B of the Autodromo (Porta Santa Maria delle Selve). During major events the service may be increased or diverted: always check the announcements from Autoguidovie and the organiser.

Inside the Park, private vehicles are subject to restrictions: check the access rules and car parks on the Reggia di Monza website.

By car and parking

Directions from Monza's official tourism website:

  • from Milan: viale Fulvio Testi towards Monza, then the SS36 towards Lecco, exit Monza Villa Reale;
  • from Turin or Venice: A4, exit Cinisello–Sesto San Giovanni, then the SS36 towards Lecco, exit Monza Villa Reale;
  • from Bologna: A1, the east ring road (tangenziale est) and then the north ring road (tangenziale nord) towards Como, exit Monza Centro.

For parking, follow the instructions for your accommodation: if a parking space or garage is included, it is stated in the listing. For the limited traffic zones in the centre, check the latest rules on the Comune di Monza website before driving in.

From the airports

  • Linate: Monza's tourism website reports the direct Monza–Linate connection as temporarily suspended. Alternatively, go to Milan (M4 from the airport) and then continue by train or with M1 + z221.
  • Malpensa: Malpensa Express to Milan, then a train to Monza (for example from Milano Porta Garibaldi or Centrale, depending on the line).
  • Bergamo Orio al Serio: Monza's tourism website mentions a shuttle service from the airport to Monza. Operator, times and seasonality need to be checked.

Practical tips from Easy Housing

  • At check-in, save the nearest bus stop and the station on your map: it saves time.
  • The historic centre (Duomo, Arengario, via Italia) is easy to explore on foot. For the Park, consider a bike: the «Sharing mobility» section of the turismo.monza.it website lists the services available.
  • For a weekend with a sporting event (for example the Monza Half Marathon), check road closures and bus diversions in advance.
