Monza is also a good base for getting out of town: suburban trains leave the station for Brianza and the lakes, and you can go and come back in a day without a car. Here you will find day-trip ideas with the lines to check and tips for planning.
The S7 and S8 lines link the Monza area with Brianza and towards Lecco, on the eastern branch of Lake Como. A trip to Lecco lets you see the lake from a different perspective than Como: the lakefront, the centre and the mountains behind.
Which line to take, where to change and how long the journey takes depend on your departure station and the time: always check the route on the Trenord app.
The S11 line takes you to Como, arriving at Como San Giovanni. From there you walk down to the walled town and the lakefront. In one day you can combine:
To plan the day: A weekend in Como and A boat trip on Lake Como. Every year in early October there is Orticolario at Villa Erba, in Cernobbio, and the Festival della Luce returns with dates that change from one edition to the next.
Milan is just a few minutes from Monza by train and is the easiest day trip. See A weekend in Milan and, if it rains, Milan in the rain.
