Staying in Milan: the practical guide for guests
Staying in an apartment in Milan is convenient, but the city has rules worth knowing in advance: for cars, for public transport and for the tourist tax. Here you will find the practical information. For getting around in detail and for an itinerary, see the guides linked at the bottom.
Before you leave and on arrival
- Arrival instructions: check-in, check-out, access and any parking are in your confirmation and in our messages.
- Documents: we ask for a valid document for every guest, children included.
- From the airports: from Linate the M4 takes you to the centre; from Malpensa the Malpensa Express goes to Cadorna or Centrale; from Orio al Serio you travel by coach.
The area: finding your way around Milan
- The Duomo, the Galleria, Brera and the Castello can be explored on foot and with the M1, M2, M3 and M4.
- Centrale, Porta Garibaldi and Cadorna are the departure points for Monza, Como and Valtellina.
- The Navigli, Darsena, Isola, Porta Nuova and Tortona are the evening neighbourhoods.
- Travel times depend more on the metro line than on the kilometres: check which line serves your area.
Things to keep in mind
- Tourist tax: it is paid by non-residents per person per night, for up to 14 consecutive nights. The amount is communicated by us or by the booking portal.
- Area B and Area C regulate car access: check the Comune's rules.
- On ATM metro, trams and buses you can pay contactless; use the same card on entry and on exit. It does not work on the S lines or on trains.
- Follow the accommodation's instructions for separating your waste for recycling.
- Emergencies: 112. Non-urgent medical care: 116117, free of charge in Lombardy.
- For pharmacies on duty, consult the official services.
