Staying in Como: the practical guide for guests

A stay in Como is easy once you know three things: the ZTL (limited traffic zone) in the centre, the seasonal timetables of boats and the funicular, and how close Switzerland is. Here you will find the practical information. For getting around and itineraries, see the guides linked at the bottom.

Before you leave and on arrival

• Arrival instructions, access and any parking are in your confirmation and in our messages.
• Documents: we ask for a valid ID for every guest, children included.
• By train: from Cadorna you arrive at Como Lago; from Centrale, Porta Garibaldi or Monza at Como San Giovanni.
• By car, the centre is a ZTL: ask us beforehand how to reach the accommodation and where to park.

The area: finding your way around Como

• The Città murata (walled town) is largely pedestrian: the Duomo, squares and shops are all on foot.
• On the lakefront you will find the piers, Como Lago station and the funicular to Brunate; to the west, the Tempio Voltiano and Villa Olmo.
• Outside the walls there are ASF city buses.
• The villages of Lake Como are reached by boat, with seasonal timetables.

Things to keep in mind

• Tourist tax: it applies per person per night, up to 4 consecutive nights; amounts and exemptions are set by the Comune (municipality).
• Entering the ZTL without authorisation results in a fine; for luggage, ask us beforehand.
• For Switzerland you need an ID valid for travel abroad; check your roaming.
• Follow the accommodation’s instructions for sorting waste and recycling.

• For pharmacies on duty, check the official services.
